For those more interested in the details of Luke's latest
study by a UCLA pediatric geneticist, here are some clips from her 2
page write-up:
"This was a molecular chromosome study using DNA probe for the
ends of all of the chromosomes to detect small changes which could not
be seen with the regular chromosome test. This was entirely
normal. In addition, a similar test was done for chromosome 22 to
detect a particular deletion or loss of material on this chromosome, and
this, too, was normal....
"Overall, at 4 years he shows some developmental delay affecting
all regions, but particularly language. His height, weight and
head circumference were all less than the 3rd percentile. There
was no evidence of any neurologic disorder....
"Since we sometimes find very small chromosome deletions by the
special tests already mentioned, these were ordered, and as already
stated, the results were normal. It is believed that about 8% of
children with developmental delay and sometimes growth delay and also
minor or moderate physical abnormalities have these small deletions....
"At this time I do not know the cause of Luke's
problems...." |
