Great Ideas

for using the images in the Pictorial Library of Bible Lands

Teaching

With thousands of pictures of nearly every place mentioned in Scripture, you can teach numerous passages with illustrations.  Add some text legends to help your viewers put the pieces together.  This picture is included on the Galilee CD and this picture with captions is on the Sea of Galilee PowerPoint file on the same CD.  Download a high-resolution version of this picture (including text).

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, and this graphic illustrates just that.  Where was the "Via Dolorosa" that Jesus walked on to Golgotha?  Scholars debate the location, but here in one picture you can see it all.  Our thanks to Stephen Langfur (www.netours.com) for sharing his work with us.

Scripture Backgrounds

The possibilities here are endless.  Sometimes flat colored backgrounds are appropriate, but other times you want to spice things up.  The Pictorial Library gives you more than 5000 options.  Use a millstone for Matt 18:6 or 24:41.  Or use a picture of a Bedouin tent at Gerar to teach about Abraham (Gen 20).

Hymn Backgrounds

You can put the text on a flat black background or use a picture appropriate for the words you are singing.  Some churches use beautiful pictures - from Kansas!  Now you have the option of using pictures of the places where Abraham walked, David fought and Jesus taught.

Desktop Wallpaper

Brighten up your day with desktop wallpaper of beautiful sights from the Bible lands!  In Windows, simply open Display Properties and browse to whatever image you like.  Some free programs available on the Internet allow you to change your background automatically every day.

Promote your upcoming church tour of the Holy Land using pictures from the Pictorial Library!  This ad was created by Gerry Wallace using photos from the Turkey, Greece and Rome CDs.

Bible Illustrations

Use the photographs as inspiration for your own artwork! The large number of photographs in the Pictorial Library collection gives you all the details needed to recreate the scenes as they were in ancient times. For example, Graham Kennedy of Visual Impact Resources has created a series of stunning Bible illustrations that accurately reflect the Bible in its world.  Graham has recently begun the Bible illustration blog for an inside look at his craft.

Screensaver

Included on the CDs is a free screensaver program.  This allows you to set the pictures from any (and all!) folders to rotate sequentially (or randomly).  You can set the time for each picture to whatever you like, you can set the size of the image to display and you can choose whether or not to have a caption display below (or above) each image.
